Andries Noppert could not fulfill his prediction in the quarterfinal match of the 2022 Qatar World Cup where the Netherlands played against Argentina. Days before the game, the goalkeeper said he saw himself fully capable of saving a penalty shot from Lionel Messi, but he didn’t. The PSG winger scored to make it 0-2 and left his brave omens in nothing.
Now, the ‘Mechanical Oranje’ keeper, who plays for SC Hereenveen, said he still believes that the former Barcelona player is like any other human, and can miss a shot like anyone else. When speaking with Dutch news media ‘De Telegraaf’, the 28-year-old stated: ‘I said I could save a Messi penalty, and I continue to believe so’.
