Lionel Messi, Argentina’s national team captain in Qatar 2022, was declared an illustrious citizen in the town of Funes, in the central Santa Fe province, where his Argentina residence is located.
Funes is a short trip away from Rosario, Messi’s birthplace, and the city decided to grant Messi the highest honor after his victory in the World Cup with Argentina.
“I send my regards to the folks in Funes, and Rosario in general, I’m grateful for the love I get, especially since I came home after the World Cup,” Messi stated from his home in an upscale part of Funes.
“I want to apologize because it’s difficult to talk and listen to everybody. We only have a few days together as a family, so it’s complicated, but I thank you for your love. I hope you end the year well and that the next one starts off on the right foot” Messi stated.
After the victory in Qatar 2022, and the astonishing welcome that the national team received in Buenos Aires, Messi has been in Argentina for a week in a home located at the Kentucky Country Club, an exclusive upscale neighborhood in the outskirts of Rosario.
