This Saturday, Lionel Messi broke the impressive barrier of 1000 official games. He did so by beating Australia 2 to 1 at the round of 16 of the 2022 Qatar World Cup. And Messi played his game number 1000 at peak conditions, leading his national team to the quarter finals by opening the scoreboard against the Socceroos.
On the other hand, his eternal rival, Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, has already played 1141 official games in his career. And FIFA did not miss the opportunity to, once again, compare these two monsters of the sport and determine who is the best, through its FIFA World Cup social media.
After 1000 games, Messi overtakes CR7 on three accounts: the top scorer prize goes to Messi, having netted 789 goals against 725 from Cristiano Ronaldo. In the assisting department, Messi also got the best part: 348 to 216. What about overall titles won? Messi also has more than Cristiano Ronaldo: 41 to 31.
So, who is the best? By the numbers, FIFA has it crystal clear.
