Toni Kroos analyzed the elimination of Germany in the group stage at the World Cup in Qatar. The Real Madrid player spoke on the Magenta TV streaming platform where he assured that "I still lived it as an active player. I myself was sitting there four and a half years ago, after being eliminated in the first round, and now I felt the same. It's been another big disappointment."
The Real Madrid player who left the team after the last Euro Cup, pointed out the reasons for the crisis that the German team is experiencing. "Small details were enough to drive us crazy as a team. We don't have a well-rehearsed and solid starting eleven, as happened in the last Euro Cup. It's a 'little illness' that we already had. We were winning 2-0 against England, we received a goal and everything collapsed. The same thing happened against Hungary. We conceded a goal and we had no answer", stated Kroos, who believes that " we didn’t have the automatisms to get up at any moment" and assured that against Japan, they should have focused on "defending and winning by the minimum".
"With our team, we should definitely go through, so if Brazil knocks us out in the quarter-finals, we can say, 'OK, Brazil had maybe eight world-class players, we only had four,' but don't tell me we're out because we have less quality than Japan", Kroos said, considering that in the national team "we have leaders and players who have character on the pitch. Kimmich almost has too much character at times. The same goes for Rüdiger, Neuer, Müller with their hunger, mentality and quality. They have what it takes to lead the team," he said.
