England head coach Gareth Southgate announced that team captain Harry Kane will be available against the United States in the second match of Group B in the World Cup Qatar 2022. A scan showed that Kane has recovered from his right ankle issues.
Kane suffered a nasty bump during England’s 6-2 victory against Iran that made everyone in the delegation worry about his physical condition, but the medical tests confirmed that the Tottenham striker will be fine. Goalkeeper Jordan Pitchfork had given the good news on Wednesday, and now Southgate has confirmed Kane’s participation.
Although he didn’t score against Iran, Harry Kane had an important role in almost every one of England’s goals, he was always a reference in the attack and did everything well.
“The problem was more with the foot than with the ankle. A bad challenge, luckily he wasn’t severely hurt. Harry (Kane) is fine. It’s true that he’s trained separately from the team, but he’s good for Friday. We gave him a scan on Wednesday to make sure that everything’s fine,” Gareth Southgate told the BBC.
On his part, Manchester United defender Harry McGuire, who left the match because he was feeling bad, is now much better and a concussion has been ruled out. “He was feeling bad, and it was affecting his vision. We were worried that he might have suffered a concussion, but we saw the video of the entire match and didn’t find anything,” Southgate claimed.
Only James Maddison is in doubt for the next match due to a knee injury that has kept him from training with the group in Qatar, while Kyle Walker will be available against the USA after missing the match against Iran.
