Today’s game between Barcelona and Getafe, the first game of the year at Camp Nou, will serve to pay tribute to the team for winning the Spanish Super Cup and to Sergio Busquets for playing over 700 games with Barcelona.
The tribute to the captain comes with his future still unclear. After some criticism months ago for his performance, Busquets had permission to look for a change of air at the end of the season to play in the Major Soccer League in the USA, but negotiations have slowed down due to economic issues, also influenced by the decision of Messi to continue another year at PSG.
With this context in mind, Xavi pushed yet again for the club to extend Bussy’s contract, and the club has indeed tried to reach him to meet with him and present a formal proposal, but it has not yet been formalized. The scheduled meeting has not yet occurred. Nor is there an appointment set.
The Super Cup title won with a great exhibition against Real Madrid in Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia, was Busquets' first title as captain. The pivot will receive a commemorative shirt of this figure (700), which only Messi (778) and Xavi (767) have managed to surpass, from the hands of the Barça president, Joan Laporta. The Camp Nou video scoreboard will also offer some commemorative images.
Coinciding with the Year of the Rabbit celebrations on January 22, the club has organized the traditional dragon dance in the surroundings of the stadium by the Penya Blaugrana Dracs Units –founded by the Chinese community of Catalonia-. In addition, there will be musical performances by Uri Mora, Cesc Sansalvadó, Tropical Galaxia, Daka & Toma. And also a calligraphy workshop.
The team will go out onto the pitch wearing shirts with their names in Chinese characters and will be accompanied by children belonging to the supporters club.
