Fewer than two years remain until the Spotify Camp Nou is fully completed, including its roof. The 2027–28 season is set to mark the stadium’s full inauguration, with several ideas already under consideration to celebrate the milestone. With all seating tiers now structurally in place, construction has accelerated, and there is growing confidence in meeting deadlines, albeit with some caution due to potential unforeseen setbacks.
All tiers and VIP boxes are expected to be completed by April 2027, at which point work on installing the roof will begin. From then on, the Spotify Camp Nou will operate at full capacity and start generating maximum revenue.
With full occupancy already restored in the First and Second Tiers, the new Third Tier will be gradually opened in phases throughout the 2026–27 season, including its VIP areas. The most complex work currently underway involves interior spaces such as food service areas, lounges, wiring, and the interiors of VIP boxes.
Waterproofing of the Third Tier seating areas is now in progress, followed by seat installation after the end of the current season. The lateral section of the Third Tier is expected to open by late September 2026, including its VIP boxes. At that point, capacity will reach approximately 70,000 spectators.
By the end of 2026, Third Tier seating and VIP boxes in the main stand will be fully operational for fans. After the winter break, the plan is to fully commercialize the entire main stand area, including the First and Second Tiers, which are already in use, along with the Third Tier and VIP boxes, all with services running at full capacity. Attendance is expected to reach 80,000, marking the moment when the club will stop burning cash thanks to stronger revenue streams.
The point at which the club will be able to fully capitalize on the stadium is projected for spring 2027. Once the Third Tier is completed, attention will shift to the end stands. By late April, those sections are expected to be finished, allowing the club to maximize operations and eliminate ongoing cash burn. This will represent a key financial milestone, with only the roof remaining.
Roof installation could technically begin as early as May 2027, but with the first team expected to be entering a decisive phase of the season, relocating from Camp Nou has been ruled out. As a result, installation will begin in the summer of 2027 and continue through the start of the 2027–28 season, when Barcelona will need to find an alternative venue.
Installing the roof requires the pitch to remain completely inactive, making it impossible to host matches during that period. Reports from both internal technicians and external consultants confirm that the roof can be installed within four months. Some of the supporting pillars have already been put in place. The club cannot afford delays at this stage.
Once the Spotify Camp Nou is completed, construction of the Nou Palau will begin. However, work cannot start until debris from the former Mini stadium site has been cleared. The roadmap for the Espai Barça project is therefore clearly defined, although it also depends on institutional cooperation, as the surrounding area must be adapted to meet metropolitan planning requirements.
ALTERNATIVE FOR SEPTEMBER 2027
Montjuïc on standby if Johan Cruyff Stadium proves unprofitable
The installation of the roof will create a challenge at the start of the 2027–28 season, as the four months of work from June through September 2027 will force Barcelona to request opening the competition away from home and, even then, to play some home matches away from Camp Nou.
The club’s preferred option, as expressed by Joan Laporta, is to host those matches at the Estadi Johan Cruyff after necessary upgrades, which would cost around €14 million. This plan is based on technical reports estimating a four month construction period. However, the risk of delays means the club must have a backup plan. Playing at the Johan would reduce matchday revenue, in addition to the upgrade costs, which is why Barcelona is also seeking to keep Montjuïc available for autumn 2027. If possible, the Johan will be used, but the club wants to be prepared for every scenario.
Regarding season tickets, once the current suspension is lifted, prices will be updated in line with the accumulated Consumer Price Index since 2023, although increases will remain within established limits.
