Rodrigo Hernández is back after the serious injury that kept him sidelined for several months. At 29, the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner is aiming to become Spain’s midfield anchor at the upcoming World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Meanwhile, the Manchester City midfielder is under contract until June 2027, but he has repeatedly been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid.
Speaking from Spain’s national team camp, ahead of Friday’s friendly against Serbia, Rodrigo addressed the speculation in an interview with Radioestadio Noche on Onda Cero.
When asked whether he would consider playing for Real Madrid, he said: “Having played for Atlético Madrid does not prevent me from playing for Real Madrid. There are other players who have taken that path. Not directly, but over time. You cannot turn down the best clubs in the world.”

He was also asked whether he had ever heard Real Madrid’s president or CEO express interest in him. “I don’t know. They don’t speak to me. They speak with my agent,” he replied.
Finally, regarding a possible return to Spain and Madrid, Rodrigo admitted: “I would like to return, yes. Obviously. I have one year left on my contract. There will come a time when we will have to sit down and talk.”
