Sergio ‘Kun’ Agüero is currently in Qatar as a TV commentator for the event, and after Argentina’s victory over Australia, he chose to reveal some ‘secrets of the team that he was a part of until a year ago. These are some of the things he revealed.
Di Maria’s temper
The wing from Juventus and former Real Madrid and PSG star is one of the main targets for his teammates’ pranks: “We always make him lose his temper, he hates it. If you poke him, he goes off, he hates all types of jokes. I call him ‘big ears’ and he calls me ‘shorty,’ we mess around.”
Messi’s transformation
‘Kun’ explained that the arrival of a new generation to the national team has changed the situation. “Now it’s jokes all the time. De Paul is pretty funny. Leo was a bit quieter until he joined the team. Leo started messing around a bit more and he started to let go. In the past, I was the one who initiated, Leo would laugh, but then he started messing with the staff. We were so respectful at first, but then we started to let go.”
Mascherano, the boss
“He was the one in charge of the card game. He didn’t play, he just organized, he called us up at around nine or ten and said that anyone who wasn’t there at that time was out. At 11, he got bored and went to bed.”
Mac Allister’s nickname
Agüero gave the striker the nickname of ‘Colo’ but later found out that Mac Allister hated that moniker. “He never said anything to me, but then another teammate told him he didn’t like us to call him that. “What did he want me to call him? Mac Allister? It’s too long… It was just to make it shorter, and also because he’s a bit of a redhead… he preferred Ale or his full name, but I called him ‘Colo.’” Agüero concluded as he laughed.
