Barcelona is heading into two of its most decisive matches of the season, the derby against Espanyol and the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal against Atlético Madrid, with Hansi Flick closely monitoring a squad stretched thin by injuries, fitness concerns, and suspensions. The positive news for the German coach is the return of Frenkie de Jong.

For the second consecutive day, De Jong trained with the group at the Ciutat Esportiva. He took part partially on Thursday and, on the eve of the Espanyol clash, completed the session at the same pace as his teammates. The Dutch midfielder has missed the last nine official matches since late February due to a distal biceps injury in his right leg, including five LaLiga games, three in the Champions League, and one in the Copa del Rey. His return is seen as crucial given the physical toll on the midfield and the team’s technical needs. De Jong has already resumed ball work.
Against Atlético, Pedri remained in the locker room at halftime. Although he has been training normally, he could be rested for the derby. Flick will not have Marc Bernal available, as he was absent from Friday’s training session.
Ferran Torres provided a lighthearted moment during the morning session, as his teammates playfully celebrated his milestone of 200 appearances for Barcelona. Reserve team players Álvaro Cortés, Xavi Espart, and Edén Aller also took part in the session, while midfielder Tommy Marqués was not present.
The coaching staff is working with the idea of giving De Jong his first minutes back at Camp Nou, with the aim of having him fully fit for the decisive trip to the Metropolitano.
