Barcelona will not have to make a final decision until the end of the season on whether to trigger the €30 million option to sign him permanently from Manchester United
The key challenge lies in fitting his pre agreed salary within LaLiga’s financial fair play framework, meaning he will need to raise his level and deliver stronger performances to justify Barcelona’s investment

Marcus Rashford’s future at FC Barcelona will be decided over the next two months. Reports surfaced Wednesday morning claiming that the March deadline to activate the €30 million purchase option from Manchester United had already passed.
However, sources within the Barcelona organization familiar with the loan agreement with the Red Devils firmly deny that the deadline has expired, insisting instead that the option remains valid until June.
As a result, Barcelona will make a final decision on the 28 year old England international at the end of the season, as previously reported by Mundo Deportivo.
The club has already agreed on salary terms with Rashford’s agent in case he remains at Barça beyond this campaign, an arrangement put in place when his loan move was finalized in July 2025.
Whether he stays will depend on how his wages and the amortization of the transfer fee fit within LaLiga’s financial fair play regulations, assuming the €30 million fee is paid.
It has also been agreed with Manchester United that the payment would be made in three annual installments of €10 million.
Rashford now needs to justify Barcelona’s potential investment with strong performances during a crucial stretch of the season, especially with Raphinha sidelined through injury.
The English forward has seen his role diminish under Hansi Flick and has not scored or provided an assist since January 31 against Elche, when he netted his tenth goal of the season.
He has also registered 11 assists so far. With the World Cup approaching, where he hopes to be a starter under Thomas Tuchel, Rashford must step up in the final phase of the campaign, which will ultimately shape his future.
