Alessandro Bastoni is FC Barcelona’s top defensive target ahead of next season, as previously reported by Mundo Deportivo.
According to Fabrizio Romano, initial talks have already taken place between the Catalan club and the Italian international’s representatives regarding contract terms, salary, and other key details typical of this kind of deal.
The Inter Milan left-footed center back, currently involved with the Italian national team in World Cup qualifying playoffs, has experienced a dip in popularity in Serie A since February.
The backlash stems from an incident in which he exaggerated contact with Pierre Kalulu, leading to the Juventus defender’s red card and Bastoni’s subsequent celebration of the referee’s decision.

After assessing the market, Barcelona have concluded that Bastoni is the signing that would most improve their defensive performance due to his specific qualities. At 26 years old and under contract until 2028, Inter had long considered him a cornerstone of both their present and future.
However, recent developments have softened what was once a firm stance. That said, the Italian club is not expected to part ways cheaply with a reliable, experienced defender who still has many years ahead of him. Early reports in Italy suggest a potential fee in the range of €70–80 million.
Barcelona are also waiting to see whether their financial fair play situation will allow them to operate more freely in the upcoming summer transfer window compared to previous ones. Signing a top-level center back remains one of the club’s main sporting priorities, and for that role, their preferred option is Bastoni.
