Aitana Bonmatí (28) is making meaningful progress in her recovery as she works toward returning to the pitch.
The FC Barcelona Femení midfielder suffered a fracture of the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis in her left fibula on November 30 during a training session ahead of the UEFA Women’s Nations League final.
Spain went on to win that match 3–0, with a brace from Clàudia Pina and another goal from Vicky López.
Following surgery, Bonmatí began a carefully managed rehabilitation program. If her recovery continues as planned, she could make her return during the final stretch of the season.

“Trust the Process”
The three-time Ballon d’Or winner recently shared an encouraging photo carousel on social media, offering a glimpse into her comeback journey.
Now working primarily in the gym, Bonmatí is focused on rebuilding strength and fitness.
She captioned the post with the message: “trust the process,” underscoring her belief that consistency, discipline, and the right mindset will gradually bring her back to full fitness.

Spring Target for Return
Should her progress remain on track, Bonmatí could be back on the field this spring for the decisive phase of the campaign.
Any return, however, will depend on how her body responds during the final stages of rehabilitation and match-readiness work.
For now, the signs are promising. Bonmatí appears to be advancing steadily and confidently toward her goal.

Recognition Off the Field
While sidelined, Bonmatí continues to collect accolades from her remarkable recent seasons.
Just under a week ago, she traveled to Madrid to receive the Reina Letizia Award as Best Sportswoman of 2023 at the National Sports Awards ceremony, held at the Palacio de El Pardo.
Even as she focuses on recovery, her impact on Spanish and international soccer remains undeniable.
